A Christian should be a striking likeness of Jesus Christ. You have read lives of Christ, beautifully and eloquently written, but the best life of Christ is His living biography, written out in the words and actions of His people. If we were what we profess to be, and what we should be, we would be pictures of Christ; yea, such striking likenesses of Him that the world would not have to hold us up by the hour together, and say, “Well, it seems somewhat a likeness”: but they would, when they once beheld us, exclaim, “He has been with Jesus; he has been taught of Him; he is like Him; he has caught the very idea of the holy Man of Nazareth, and he works it out in his life and everyday actions.”

What a sad day for
Technology
RIP Steve Jobs

Friday, July 29, 2011

How hungry are you for Jesus? Are you just a little hungry - willing to nibble and snack, just to get a taste of what it means to be a Christian disciple?….. Are you famished, starving for substance and sustenance, needing to feast on the rich banquet of all God has to teach and offer? Are you hungry enough to follow Jesus wherever he might lead, regardless of the cost?

Your Face in Me

Lord, let me see your face today
In every task I undertake.
In every person I engage
In every face I see.

Lord, let me see your face today
In the helpless wondering race.
In each moment and place
In everything may you be.

Lord, let me see your face today
In the mirror on the wall.
Without vice, without gall
Let me see your face in me.

"Prayer is the divine in us appealing to the Divine above us". C. H. Dodd

Thursday, July 14, 2011

The sermon this Sunday is "Anticipation". I have this morning been in great anticipation over the possible release of the new Mac operating system Lion, also others I know are anticipating the release tonight of the new Harry Potter movie. It causes me to wonder if we anticipate our time with Jesus as much as we anticipate other things in life. Just a thought to ponder.....

The whole tree

Reading today's a year with C. S. Lewis what a great reminder of what God expects. Not so much of your time, money and work, God wants YOU! He doesn't want to trim a limb here or there he wants to take out the tree. He doesn't want to fill the cavity he wants to remove the whole tooth. Lord remind Kentish all I give, do and devote is never enough to satisfy what you want of me. Let me never be satisfied in what I am. I only want satisfaction in who You are.

New Beginnings

What a emotional week, leaving those we have grown to love in Moultrie Ga. We have certainly been blessed in each ministry position that we have been. God has been so good to us each time we move and we are certain that this is again a move ordained by God. I am looking forward to the opportunity to serve Park Avenue UMC and to be a part of a great staff an mission here in Valdosta Ga. I know that God brings people together for a time such as this. I mean that we are here together to do God's work in the location He has placed us. I know that PAUMC will be a means of sharing the Kingdom of God on earth and I look forward to working with you all in this endeavor.

Psalm 26 Vindicate me O' Lord. When I look at the word vindicate it means to justify and through the cross we are justified and can go and read the next verse that says for I have led a blameless life. We are blameless because we are vindicated in the cross of Christ. If you follow the flow then we see that it is because our reliance is not on ourselves but on God. When we realize this then we decide! Yes, I choose or as the NIV says I do not, a declarative statement: sit with the deceitful, associate with the hypocrite, I abhor the assembly of evildoers and refuse to sit with the wicked. Why do we choose this? Look at verse 8, because Lord, I love the house where you live, the place where your glory dwells. We can find this glory when we rest in the faithfulness of God and rely on vindication of the cross and then choose to live a Godly life. We know it, now just do it!

Update on Cathy from Billy

Thu, Apr 21, 2011 8:34 AM
Cathy has been taken back for the surgery as of 1030 this morning. She was excited and nervous at the same time. We have a list of questions to ask her Dr once he is finished. If Any of you think of anything we need to ask we will add it to our list. The procedure should take about an hour and a half. Look for a post op post around noon!

Update on Cathy McIntosh's MRI and upcoming surgery. She should be home by Friday:
Wed, Apr 20, 2011 8:56 AM
Cathy made it through the two hour mri last night. She had A little trouble at first but made it through. Dr. K visited us this morning and told us that the MRI results were negative. This rules out the ARVD. This now leads them to believe that we are dealing with one of a half dozen inherited heart diseases. Cathy will participate in Familion Genetic Testing for Inherited Cardiac Syndromes. Included in this list is the Long QT Syndrome that was discussed a few weeks back. The testing will take several weeks to receive the results. At this point, the medical team will assess if medications will be necessary and the testing/screening required for Cara, John, etc. The AICD procedure is scheduled for first procedure in the morning. We should be home Friday morning. I am glad they are doing this testing. I hope that we can figure out what it is and get other family members tested and evaluated.

Friday, April 15, 2011

Please keep Marilyn Berry in your prayers. She is in Colquit Regional with pneumonia.

Saturday, April 9, 2011

Today is truly miraculous. The morning started with Paige getting here first around 8am. By Paiges' account, Cathy was wide awake and signing letters to her. She was spelling her name and asking about people, etc. She is full of her personality and communicating unbelievably. Dr Allen and dr price were stunned when she started signing. John and I arrived around 11 and it is truly a sight to see. She is gesturing with her hands, mouthing words, laughing, crying, smiling. She has asked what happened. We have tried to give her just bits and pieces without upsetting her too much. She definitely knows where she is now but doesn't really recall the weekend in Atlanta before it happened. I think she gets a little emotional when she can't remember what happened. We are letting her rest now but she is definitely calling the shots regarding what she wants and when she wants it. Turns out that the new People magazine has a story that is very similar to hers ( cardiac arrest 32 yr old female and hypothermic protocol ). The issue is dated April 18. Of course that's the date of Cathy's birthday!

Tuesday, April 5, 2011

Update on Meg,
She will have surgery to repair the hole in the lung tomorrow morning at 11:00am. We hope that you will lift her and the medical team up in your prayers.
Update on Cathy
Day 8: Evidently there was a little storm that passed through last night. I slept right thru it! Thanks to Biv for hanging out last night. Went back around 630 this morning to see Cathy. Carrie and Shellie are back today! Cathy had a good night. The morphine doses are not quite doing the trick. Cathy is still uncomfortable with the vent tube. Dr. Allen came in this morning to check on another patient (he wasnt suppose to be here today). He came in to see Cat while I was in there. I reminded him about the pushups. They couldn't get any decent images on the MRI from last night (kinda expected that). Dr. Allen told Carrie to give her adavan for the pain/discomfort from the tube. They want to try the MRI again today; however, this time he wants her on something that will make/keep her comfortable. Dr. Allen called the ENT and is having him come by late this morning to assess her for the trach procedure. We agree the trach will be the best way to make her more comfortable. The procedure can be performed at bedside. Will not know exactly when they will perform this until the ENT looks at her and we consent. She has a little fever and the just gave her some tylenol. The feeding thru the tube is going very well. They performed an ultrasound on her liver this morning to check it for something that they saw in her blood work. It sounded minor. I forgot to report this yesterday but her heart strength is much better. So the plan for the day, as of now, appears to be rest (with the help of adavan), perform MRI and discussing the trach. We discussed the transfer yesterday and it is our feeling that they want the MRI done so that they know how to determine the best placement for her regarding the transfer. Shands is still the most likely scenario at this time. Cara also had a great night! We wore her out yesterday She too slept thru the little storm. Scoot slept on Johns stomach all night when the thunder started rolling in!
Update on Meg,
We met with Dr. Brown this morning and they will do another X-ray of the lung today. Then if fully inflated we will stop the suction again and see if it stays inflated. If not we will look at surgery to fix the hole possibly on Friday. We are praying that it fixes itself and we are very comfortable with the timeline we are looking at. We certainly covet your prayers.
Thanks
Hale

Update on Meg
Ok this mornings x-ray after suction was removed last night showed the lung had dropped a little. In chronic lung collapse it takes longer to get the lung fully inflated without suction. The suction has been re applied and we will try again tomorrow.

Saturday, April 2, 2011

Not coming home today collapsed again when suction was removed. Probably Monday. Dr. says that the month of walking around with a pnumothorax is probably the culprit. Meg is bummed. The will give her some extra pain meds.

Oswald Chambers was great today! The website www.utmost.org will let you read it in full. Let me see if I can summarize it: Our greatest need is readiness to face Jesus at any and every turn. We must guard agains being so absorbed in service to Jesu that we are not ready to face Him... Readiness is not brought by service but through intense spiritual reality, expecting Jesus at every turn. If we are going to be ready for Jesus Christ, we must stop being religious. Stop using religion as if it were a lifestyle and set our hearts on His wants and His thoughts. Trust no one that blocks your sight of Jesus.

Awesome! Lord let me look to you in this day!

Monday, March 28, 2011

I John 4:4
You dear children, are from God and have overcome them (spirits of the world) because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

How great that we have the promise of God to be an overcomer. Claim the FACT that you are a child of God and have power over the world. I pray that we realize Christ in us during this season of Lent and that He is greater than anything.

I'm reading "The God You Can Know" by the late Dan DeHaan. I love this idea about Jesus
"Jesus did not come to make bad men good, He came to make dead men live"
I will be updating all my social media with ping.fm this is a test. You will be able to get prayer updates if you get this note.
Leeland Dampier passed away overnight. More information to follow. Please keep family in your prayers.
Genesis 2:15 The LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to till it and keep it.
I find it interesting that even before the fall of man that God intended for us to take care of the earth. One thing we can keep as it was in Eden is our responsibility from God to work the earth and take care of the resources God has given us. This obviously leads toward the spiritual as well reminding us to be good stewards of all our blessings and the gifts for sharing our faith with others. Have a great day, care for the earth, care for it's inhabitants.

Jenny Marion, surgery completed

The surgery is over and Jenny is doing well. They were not able to do everything they hoped but they knew going in that may be the case. The biggest curve(hump) was significantly straightened.  All in all, Ben says it was a success. The surgery required a complete blood transfusion…41/2 liters of blood. Jenny will remain intubated tonight due to significant swelling, and therefore sedated for tonight. Probably remain in ICU until Thursday.

Jenny Marion update 12:30PM

Just had another update on Jenny. They have mapped the locations of the placement of the hardware and are now beginning the process of installation of the brace.

Jenny Marion

Just had an update on Jenny. They have removed the old hardware from surgery years ago. They are now beginning the procedure to make a longer incision to begin the process of inserting the new hardware.

Jenny Marion update

Jenny was taken into surgery at 8:35 AM this morning. Please be in prayer and we will keep you up to date throughout the day.

This Weeks Lectionary Texts

Leviticus 19:1-2, 9-18

Psalm 119:33-40

I Corinthians 3:10-11, 16-23

Matthew 5:38-48

As I look over the lectionary for this week I really see especially in the Leviticus text that it is important for us to understand the concept of reaping to the edges of the field. I think we are prone to do all we can in our life to procure all we can for the sole purpose of enriching ourselves. In our pursuit of the edges of the field we forget Sabbath and taking time with God and others. When we are more in tune with God and others we gladly leave the edges of the field unharvested so that others can glean the fruit of our labor to make a better world. How will you harvest? If we harvest for self then we have left out God and others and the harvest will be foolishness as is wisdom of this age according to the I Corinthians passage.
